My client own and runsa well established nursing home based in East Belfast catering for the needs of approximately 36 residents. ! They seek to recruit a Nurse Manager / Matron toassist with the smooth running of the home.

They pride themselves in the provision of a caring, personal service to all residents in a clean, well-equipped home with modern facilities. Theteam of staff are there to put the needs of the elderly resident first from specific dietary requirements, tailored care plans to regular visits from the hairdresser.

The Nurse Manager / Matron will report to the Proprietor and be responsible for overseeing the following duties: -

  • To be responsible principally for residents' personal care needs and provide health supervision and attention through direct care where needed and to ensure compliance with RQIA minimum standards.
  • To ensure that all duties undertaken by junior and domestic staff are performed to the required standards, and that all staff contribute to the efficient running of the home and creation of the right atmosphere.
  • To assi! st in preparing duty rosters. To ensure that adequate staff co! ver is maintained for all shifts and, where necessary, cover such deficiencies until proper staffing can be provided. These shifts would normally be daytime though weekend or evening work may be involved.
  • To be responsible principally for dealing with residents and residents' relations concerning health matters. To occasionally visit hospitals or other establishments to assess patients prior to entering the home. To attend meetings with the care managers and other healthcare professionals as required.
  • To formulate social and health care plans and risk assessments for new residents and produce monthly reviews for existing residents. To also ensure that Primary Nurses maintain and update these records.
  • An "Epicare" computer system is in use in the home. Knowledge of this system would be preferable though a candidate with good typing/computer skills should be able to quickly use the system. Training will be given if necessary.
  • To control the! security and issue of drugs for which the home has taken responsibility and to maintain the necessary records. To ensure the correct stocks of drugs are maintained and to dispose of unwanted drugs where necessary.
  • To participate in the development of activities for residents in which they can join, and which will enhance their quality of life.
  • To ensure that the preparation, cooking and serving of food meet the required standards. To ensure that all rooms, walkways and common spaces are properly cleaned, maintained and adequately heated. To assist in the monitoring of stock levels of food and household consumables.
  • To support the Administrator in his/her duties as the "responsible officer" for the home under the health and safety legislation and fire regulations. To be "on-call" for emergencies arising in the home.
  • To help the Administrator maintain log books and records as may be required by the registering authority or other.
  • ! To conduct interviews of new staff. To conduct staff meetings, staff tr! aining and development activities. To apply the disciplinary rules as laid down and to assist in the implementation of the disciplinary procedures.
  • To be familiar with the regulations and procedures required in the execution of the above duties, (i.e. food hygiene, fire precautions and health and safety).
It is envisaged the successful candidate will have several years’ experience of managing nursing and auxiliary staff in a similar environment. You will be required to pass a police background check. You will have good people skills and possess a good working knowledge of the statutory requirements associated with care of the elderly. Candidates must currently hold a RGN nursing qualification.

This opportunity is initially on a 6 month contract working directly for my client. Starting salary £35,000 negotiable depending on skills and specific experience.
